The world can end now

The world can end now. Divided as red and blue, believer and non and your god and mine, the division that really mattered today was if you worshipped Nadal or Fed. You see, having grown up in a divided family with my dad rooting firmly for Becker and me in the Edberg camp we came together as one over the years- he firmly in the Fed camp and me on and off a Nadal fan. I tended to vote Nadal mostly. And then 2017 happened. Jim Courier believes the Fed is not from this planet and I am slowly starting to realize that.

My generation has been the luckiest to witness some of the greatest athletes and sportsmen and women. Serena settled the debate once and for all as one of the greatest athletes ever, man or woman . Having witnessed the glory of Sachin’s strokes, Bolts bolts and the incredible genius of Jordan, Magic, LeBron and Steff, the pinnacle of competitiveness in Brady and Rogers  and the magic of Messi, our generation has seen it all.

How wrong !

Federer-Nadal evokes something more in those of us who are sports fanatics. In a world troubled by so much, it appeared the Gods got together to give us all a break. They stopped time to let us earthlings witness a once in a lifetime event.

The greatest tennis player ever beat the greatest tennis player ever. Tennis is life’s lesson. There are no divisions, only the sublime when two opposites compete in spirit and the play becomes greater than the players.

Who needs virtual reality when there is so much virtue in reality.
